SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE #2
In which MJ makes some friends, and Peter Parker makes an enemy.
by Frank PittareseAfter a couple of mini-series, this book is officially underway as an ongoing series. In a word, it’s delightful. While clearly aimed at an all-ages audience (and going after Girls Who Like Manga) this is one of the best Spider-books around. It doesn’t matter if you’re a 16-year-old girl or a 40-year old guy…it’s freakin’ irresistible!
This month is pure high school soap opera, as MJ auditions for the school play and Peter finds himself on the receiving end of bully Flash Thompson’s rage. MJ is caught in the middle, caring about both boys, while still harboring a huge crush on the mysterious Spider-Man.
Since the series focuses on Mary Jane more than Spidey, there’s not a whole lot of superhero action. Still, old-school fans of Saturday morning animation should enjoy a cool cameo by a particularly “amazing friend” of Spidey’s. And make no mistake, drama abounds in this series. The result of MJ’s confrontation with Flash is worth the cover price alone.
Go buy this book (and if you know any kids, buy them a copy, too)!
