SUPERGIRL #4
In which Supergirl (Dark Supergirl, this time) fights everyone she meets. Again.
by Frank PittareseThis is the fourth issue in a row where the story goes like this: Supergirl meets somebody. Supergirl fights somebody. To Be Continued.
It’s getting a little tired and repetitive, but thankfully, we’ve only one more issue to go before this storyline wraps. We’re also losing the writer, which is a blessing, a curse, and another matter entirely.
This month, Dark Supergirl (some sort of bad-ass replica of the real Supergirl) beats the crap out of Lex Luthor and select members of the Justice League. She seems to want something from the wreckage of the JLA Watchtower, their former moon-based headquarters. Or maybe she doesn’t and is just having a bad day. There’s not a whole lot of depth to this chick or detailed info about what, exactly, is happening.
Oh yeah, the real Supergirl appears briefly.
It’s a shame that DC decided to retcon the most recent Supergirl out of existence, replacing her with the current model, a skinny teen with no personality to speak of, for the sole reason that Supergirl, ANY Supergirl, should be Superman’s biological cousin, from Krypton. But four issues in, and there’s still no sign of a supporting cast, main location, central theme, or any real direction or focus in her life (or in the series as a whole). She just shows up and fights people. Now her double shows up and fights people.
The grade-school simplicity of it is somewhat appealing, and the art is certainly dynamic, but really, enough already.
Next issue, it all wraps up. Can’t wait.
