Console Wars: Round 2
Microsoft had it easy. The Xbox360 had no direct competition. But all that is about to change...
by WootiniThe interweb is chock full of rumors, news reports and rampant speculation about Nintendo and Sony's new consoles, debating whether Sony can maintain its dominance of the console market, or if Nintendo will come out of a distant 3rd place to take the lead once again. Well, I've got my own theory about who's going to come out on top.
And for the time being, let's leave Microsoft out of it. The 360 is doing fine, so bravo to them. This is all about the idle speculation, remember?
Okay, let's look at the facts. We've got an electronics giant gearing up to release a techologically advanced piece of hardware that pushes the limits of what the industry has seen before. The graphics and sound are beyond impressive, and it has multimedia and online capabilities that impress. On the other hand, the price is a little steep, and it uses a disc format that is brand new and suspiciously enough, created by said electronics giant.
On the other side of the field, we have a gaming company that is about to release an unusual new product that has a weird name and a bizarre new control scheme. The graphics and sound appear to be no better than the current generation of technology, but it offers a unique online experience. Also, the games look really unique and fun.
So who's going to come out on top? Cutting edge technology or fun? Well, based on what we've seen happen to the hot, hyped PSP and the quirky underdog DS, I think the future is clear. We now know that gamers are going to opt for games over graphics, so Sony has a hell of a road ahead of them.
Good luck, guys!
