writing for the Web
You may have already noticed that I violate some of these rules when writing on my site. Writing for the Web is slightly different than writing for the printed page. Most sites don't understand that and the result is a tiny black font on a blinding white background. That increases eye strain. So I say to you stupid tiny font users, "Boo!" That's right. "Boo!" I say to you. "Boo!" and "Hiss!" Whatever media format you use, readability should be a top priority, if not THE top. Whoa, see what I did there? I capitalized 'THE.' I would NEVER do that for a printed page. I would use italics instead. For my Web site, however, I use a big Arial font for ease of reading (serif fonts, such as Times, are harder on the eyes). The downside is that the italicized words in this big Arial font are sometimes difficult to discriminate from non-italicized words. As a result, I sometimes revert to capitalizing entire words for emphasis. Other times, I'll add a boldface in addition to the italics. Either way, it's not 100 percent proper. It is, however, readable. You will have to make those trade-offs now and then.
