bits
Not to be confused with atomic bits (aka ACUs), bits are the extra--often sweeter--parts of the cereal. If ACUs are the foundation, bits are the dry wall...or possibly the red window shutters of the cereal house. I'm not 100 percent confident in this metaphor, but you get the gist of it, right? (Can I use 'gist' in a dictionary definition?) The most common example of bits are the marshmallows in cereals such as Count Chocula. How to tell the difference between ACUs and bits? ACUs constitute the bulk of the cereal. Bits are always numerically smaller. All cereals have ACUs; not all have bits (Frosted Flakes, for example). Aesthetically speaking, if a cereal has both ACUs and bits, the bits are usually more colorful than the ACUs.
