atomic cereal unit (ACU)

The fundamental, indivisible part of any cereal. It is the irreducible, indestructible material without which the cereal itself would not be possible. For example, the 'O' in Cheerios or the non-marshmallow, boring parts of Lucky Charms. Sometimes called atomic bits.
